Cleopatra III was born 161 BC and She died 101BC. Her mothers name was Cleopatra II and her fathers name was Ptolemy VI Philometor. She was married to Ptolemy VIII Physcon. She has five children there names was PtolemyIX Soter, Ptolemy X Alexander Cleopatra IV,Cleopatra V Selene ,Tryphaena. In 145 BC, "Ptolemy VIII" killed his nephew and usurped the throne.
According to the Romans’ advice, "Cleopatra II" married him to become co-regent on Egypt. In order to limit her authorities, "Ptolemy VIII" married their own daughter "Cleopatra III", who was as ambitious as her mother. Due to his brutality, riots out broke in Alexandria, and "Ptolemy VIII" fled to Cyprus with "Cleopatra III", leaving "Cleopatra II" to reign alone. They came back 3 years later, and "Cleopatra III" had to flee to Syria seeking shelter with her daughter "Cleopatra Thea". Despite their later conciliation and her return to Egypt, conspiracies did not end.
With the death of "Ptolemy VIII" in 116 BC, "Cleopatra III" killed her mother in a mysterious way, ending the history of a queen who reigned solely as well as co-regent with 2 kings.Cleopatra IV and V were daughters of "Cleopatra III". Their brother, "Ptolemy IX" became king of Egypt in 116 BC and married his sister "Cleopatra IV", both events against the will of his mother. He was forced to divorce her and marry his other sister "Cleopatra V" (Cleopatra Selene) in 115 BC. In 107 BC, with the aid of the Romans, "Cleopatra III" conspired against her son who fled to Cyprus.
His brother "Ptolemy X Alexander" replaced him, and reigned jointly with his mother. In fact, "Cleopatra III" became the effective ruler of Egypt and Cyprus until her death in 101 BC.Shortly before the death of "Ptolemy XII" (Flute Player) in 51 BC, he proclaimed his eldest surviving daughter "Cleopatra VII" (aged 18), and his eldest son "Ptolemy XIII" (aged 10) co-regents. Before 8 August 145: Ptolemy VIII Physcon becomes master of Egypt; he marries his sister Cleopatra II,widow of the former king Ptolemy VI Philometor. 141/140: Ptolemy VIII marries his niece and stepdaughter Cleopatra III.
140: birth of Cleopatra IV 140/139: Birth of Ptolemy IX Soter 140/139: The two Cleopatras, mother and daughter, quarrel. An influential courtier named Galestes attempts a coup, unsuccessfully. She became senior ruler of Egypt when her mother died (115 BCE) & played a pivotal role in the rivalry between her sons. After years of feuding with her oldest son (Ptolemy IX) she expelled him from Alexandria (107 BCE) & replaced him with his younger brother (Ptolemy X). Now at the peak of her political power she presumed to do what no other female ruler of Egypt had ever done: act as priest in the royal cult (105 BC).
Ptolemy Alexander departed for Cyprus as king of the island. Another bitter quarrel between his brother and mother brought Ptolemy Alexander back to Egypt as coregent in 107, but Cleopatra III took official precedence and was the actual ruler.Cleopatra III & Ptolemy IX Soter II (Lathyros) were co-regents during the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Cleopatra III was the niece of Physcon (Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II) and was married to him while her mother was still his official wife. She bore Physcon two sons - Ptolemy IX Philometor Soter II (Lathyros) and Ptolemy X Alexander I as well as three daughters, Cleopatra IV, Cleopatra Tryphaena, and Cleopatra Selene.
She hated Lathyros, but doted on the younger son Alexander. The Alexandrians wanted Lathyros to be co-regent. He was then governor of Cyprus. Lathyros was brought back to Alexandria to co-rule and Alexander was sent to Cyprus to replace Lathyros. Lathyros was married to Cleopatra IV, his sister, but his mother repudiated the marriage and replaced her with Cleopatra Selene, who was Cleopatra IV's sister.
Cleopatra IV went to Cyprus where she tried to raise an army and to marry Ptolemy Alexander. She failed to marry him and moved on to Syria where she used her army as a dowry and married Antiochus IX Cyzicenus who was son of Antiochus Sidetes and Cleopatra Thea. Cleopatra III finally succeeded in driving out Lathyros in 107 BC when she accused him of trying to murder her. He left behind his wife and his two sons. His brother returned from Cyprus and assumed the throne.
Lathyros was in Cyprus during this time. After the death of Alexander in a naval battle, Lathyros, who was now in his mid-fifties, was brought back to Alexandria to try to put back together the Ptolemaic empire. He died at the age of 62 and left no legitimate heir to the throne, both of his sons by Cleopatra Selene appear to have died at a young age. His daughter Cleopatra Berenice ruled alone for a while after his death. Cleopatra was 15 when her uncle married her & made her his co-regent (140 BC). She remained a loyal wife during her husband's running feud with her mother & accompanied him into exile (130 BC).
